DEQX for home theatre systems DEQX’s uniquely powerful speaker and room correction is used for professional surround mastering
by some of the worlds leading studios including famous Abbey Road studios in London, to ensure
their surround monitoring is accurate and transparent. It is often that case that Home Theatre sound systems, in order to save costs, are focused on
loudness, bass and effects, at the expense of the high audio resolution and accuracy that not only
allow the system to provide the best audiophile musical experiences, but also dramatically improve
the genuine impact and realism of a film’s soundtrack. The DEQX PDC family easily integrates with external surround sound decoders, preamps and
home theatre receivers. There are a number of ways that DEQX can be incorporated into Home Theatre systems. The right
implementation for you depends on what equipment you are using, and how far you want to take it.
Arguably, the best value implementation of DEQX in a Home Theatre uses a single PDC (two inputs
for the front Left and Right main speakers, when the DEQX then properly integrates with one or two
subwoofer/s, rather than using the sub-woofer output channel of your surround receiver. For stereo music, this will provide total speaker correction, while properly time-aligning subwoofer/s
and providing both speaker and room correction. Film soundtracks, where the vast majority of the
music soundtrack is heard via the front left and right speakers, will also benefit. Where it is inconvenient to install the centre ‘dialogue’ speaker, DEQX Calibrated™ correction wil
firm up the phantom imaging of systems, especially when using DEQX-HD’s active linear phase
crossovers. In such a case the surround receiver/decoder is set to ‘no centre speaker', so that the
centre speaker audio is sent equally to the left and right speakers. Many DEQX users have reported
that when using DEQX processing, the resulting ‘phantom’ centre image is more desirable than an
actual centre speaker. A full surround DEQX Home Theatre implementation would use two to four PDC-2.6 units to provid
any surround configuration from 4.2 to 8.8 and anything in between! For advice on how to configure such systems contact your local dealer or sales@deqx.com |
